Wi-Fi QR code for events and weddings

Hundreds of people asking for one password at once is avoidable: print the code where attendees already look.

Exactly as it shows in your phone's Wi-Fi list. Capitals and spaces matter.

Want a folded table tent, a door sign or 6 cards per page? Open the printable sign maker.

Set it up in four steps

  1. Get the network name and password from the venue a few days before; check whether it is open with a splash page.
  2. Generate the code and test it on site with both an iPhone and an Android phone.
  3. Print it on badges, place cards, the programme back page and a large sign at registration.
  4. For multiple rooms or networks, paste them all into the bulk generator.

Tips

Big screens. Show the code on the projector between sessions. A code roughly one tenth of the scanning distance wide scans comfortably.
Weddings. A small card at each place setting or on the welcome sign keeps guests from asking the venue staff.
Capacity. A code makes joining easy but can't add bandwidth. Ask the venue how many devices the guest network supports.
Hidden networks. Tick "hidden" only if the venue really hides the network name; otherwise some phones join more slowly.

Guests on iPhone or Android? Point them to the iPhone or Android guide if their camera doesn't react.

Questions

How big should a Wi-Fi QR code be on a projector or banner?

A common guideline is a code width of about one tenth of the scanning distance: 30 cm wide for people 3 m away. The density explainer on our home page calculates it for your password length.

Can I put the code on name badges?

Yes. Print the bulk sheet or 6-per-page cards and cut them to badge size; about 3 cm wide is enough at arm's length.

What if the venue changes the password on the day?

Generate a new code on your phone in this browser and show it on screen; it takes seconds and needs no account.
